History

Established in 1998 as part of the European Union Center Network, the European Union Center at the University of Missouri is working towards building stronger ties among Europeans and Americans through a variety of outreach, educational and research programs targeting from local and regional colleges and universities to local businesses and business groups, chambers of commerce, state and local government, high school educators, the media, as well as the larger University of Missouri System.

Moreover, to promote knowledge of the its institutions and policies, and to enhance the EU and US relations , the Center also encourages original research on the EU and offering also a variety of courses for students wishing to add an EU element to their education or to earn a specialization in EU studies.

The Center works closely with the colleges and professional programs at the University of Missouri while coordinating and conducting a wide variety of research on the European Union. The Center's particular competencies are in the areas of integration and enlargement, health and biotechnology, regional and rural studies, and conflict resolution.

The Academic Cabinet

The EU Center Academic Cabinet serves as an oversight board to the center¡¯s activities, outreach programs and research. The cabinet held a meeting on October 2, 2007 and reviewed EU center staff, current research projects and upcoming activities. The cabinet's efforts are valuable to maintain and support the EU Center as an essential component to the university community. The 2007 cabinet members include:
