Mission

The Missouri Transatlantic Center is committed to expanding academic and practical understanding of the transatlantic relationship by promoting conversation between the United States and the European Union. The Center hosts numerous speaker series, lectures, and conferences on both sides of the Atlantic each year, and cultivates lasting relationships between academics, professionals, and students.
History
The University of Missouri-Columbia inaugurated the Missouri Transatlantic Center (originally the European Union Center) in 1998, after winning a European Commission grant designating MU as a European Center of Excellence.
Since holding the grant in 2001, Chancellor Brady Deaton — recognizing the indispensability of transatlantic understanding and cooperation on the University of Missouri campus — has continued to budget the matching funds allocated to the EUCE. This continued support led to the growth and metamorphosis of the center into the Transatlantic Center at the University of Missouri and enabled continual growth since 2001.
The programs offered by the Missouri Transatlantic Center have created opportunities for students and faculty members to explore Europe and interact with prominent European politicians, scholars, and businesspeople.
The Missouri Transatlantic Center is headquartered at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Missouri’s flagship land-grant university. It enjoys close partnership with the Missouri School of Journalism, the University of Missouri International Center, Office of Graduate Studies, and numerous other academic departments and research centers.
