EU Policies and Institutions

Program: Brussels; Jan. Intercession
Class: The first sessions in Fall semester and several sessions in the Spring semester upon return from Brussels

As the capital of the European Union, Brussels, Belgium, is one of the real gems of Northern Europe. Agriculture and Public Affairs students can take advantage of this short-term study abroad program to learn about the European Union's policies and institutions, while visiting the spectacular Grand Place at the heart of Brussels and sampling the chocolate, waffles, mussels and fries that Belgium is known for.
The goal of this program is to introduce students to the history, institutions and policies of the European Union from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
Students will be introduced to the social, political, and economic forces that have influenced the process of European integration over the last half century. They will study how the EU is organized, its purpose and goals, and how it differs from the US.
Eligibility
Students with a minimum of 3.0 GPA who are admitted to the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the Truman School of Public Affairs are eligible for this program. Students with slightly lower GPA may be considered if their journalism GPA is above 3.0. All students must be in good academic standing.
Course Credit
Undergraduate students will earn three credit hours - Ag 4301-07.
Graduate students in public affairs will earn three hours for PA 8085 - EU Policies and Institutions, while agriculture students will earn three credit hours for Ag 7301-01.
Costs
MU attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable for you. Generally, study abroad experiences cost a bit more than credits taken on-campus at MU, but include new experiences, cultures, languages, and often times housing, flight costs, and other program related costs. It's highly recommended that you outline a budget for yourself of what you would spend during the summer here at MU and compare it to study abroad costs. Program costs include airfare, ground transportation, hotel accommodations, and programming fee. Based on the previous year’s program, the total costs are estimated to be $2500 (including tuition and ticket) plus your personal expenditures.
