Climate Change: Can the EU and the US Find Common Ground?

12 January 2011
Residence Palace, International Press Centre
Brussels

With just over a year until the Kyoto Protocol runs its course, the Missouri Transatlantic Center held a forum to address the EU and US's differing views on climate change. The conference addressed the following issues:
  • Is it time to admit that global warming is an issue where the United States and Europe will never see eye-to-eye?
  • Is an international agreement to cap greenhouse gas emissions still desirable and achievable?
  • Outside the arena of international talks, what actions can the EU and the US take to combat warming and deal with the consequences of climate change?

Keynote Speakers
  • Jos Delbeke - European Commission Director General for Climate Change
  • Louis Bono - Counselor of Energy, Environment, Science and Technology, US Mission to the EU
  • Michael Urban - Professor of Geography, University of Missouri

Moderator
  • Sonja Van Renssen - Freelance journalist - Climate, energy and environment

Host
  • Brady Deaton - Chancellor, University of Missouri
